It's late at night in LA and Laney is up to no good, as usual.

He hasn't tried hooking again since the latest disaster; first he wants to see if stealing will work any better. So he found himself a nice deserted toy store, picked the lock, and opened the cash register with a crowbar.

"He's gonna kick your ass for this," Laney predicts.

"That's my problem. Yours is coming."

"Yep. You gonna let me go?"

"No. If you cooperate with them you won't get in as much trouble. You didn't take anything -- they can get you for vandalism and B&E but not theft. Play nice and you might get away with community service."

"I don't give a shit what the law does to me."

"If he's hitting you then report it."

A small, wry smile tugs at his lips, distorting the stitches.

"I did."

"Then--"

Red and blue lights in the street. She growls and gets up.

"Stay here. We're watching."

He blows her a kiss, just like he did the first time.

"Nice talkin' to you."

She still thinks that's weird.

She takes off at a run, uses the dumpsters at the end of the alley to gain the fire escape, and heads for the roof.

Maybe now Henri won't be so upset.

The cops show up; the cops notice him still lying there; the cops arrest him. Somebody grabs him by his fucked-up wrist and, blissfully, he passes out.
